Trace Basic Shapes Worksheet
Basic shapes, set out clearly with generous spacing for pencil work. Print one copy or thirty; it's free either way.
Choose "Fit to page" in your print dialog for a perfect result on any paper size. Ordinary printer paper is fine, and greyscale printing saves colour ink.
No signup needed. Free for personal & classroom use — see our license.
About this printable
This worksheet features dashed outlines of a diamond, a teardrop shape, and a chevron, with solid versions as models. The thick lines are easy for little hands to follow. It's perfect for preschoolers and kindergartners developing fine motor control and shape recognition.
Use this page to help children practice their pencil grip and tracing skills. It's ideal for left-handed children as the model is placed to the right, preventing hand coverage. Children can trace the dashed lines to create their own shapes.

Questions about this printable
Is there a catch with this free download? ▾
None. There is no signup wall and no trial: the page you print is the page you see, without a watermark. Ads around the page are what keep it free.
What paper size does it print on? ▾
The file is laid out for US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) and prints just as cleanly on A4 — turn on "Fit to page" in your print dialog and it scales to about 97%, which nobody can see by eye.
Can I print it more than once? ▾
As many times as you like. Plain copy paper is all it needs. If you use the same sheet daily, slip it into a plastic wallet and write on it with a dry-wipe marker — one printed page then lasts weeks.
Can I use it in my classroom? ▾
Yes. Teachers, homeschool parents, childminders and libraries may print unlimited copies for their own children at no cost and with no permission needed. The only thing you may not do is sell it, sell prints of it, or pass the file itself around — share a link to this page instead.

This page is part of 42 Free Left-Handed Tracing Practice Worksheets, which has 42 printables in it. You can take them one at a time, or use the "Download all" button on the set's page to get every page in one go.
Can I change it? ▾
This one is a true vector PDF — every line is a shape and the text is still live text, so it opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity or Canva and can be edited. That is for your own use: the licence does not allow reselling it, edited or not.
